About
ALEC was born in 1961 in Zurich. Since childhood he has been passionate about art and taught himself to draw autodidactically.
At age 15 he passed the entrance examination for the Zurich Art School, but chose instead to complete a three-year apprenticeship in advertising and marketing, followed by a career in banking.
After leaving banking, he dedicated himself fully to painting. He studied under master painter Henrik Frei Larsson and trained for several years with Mariana Scvortova. He also attended workshops at the Franz Gertsch Museum in Burgdorf/BE on woodcut (Franz Gertsch), painting by Varlin, and the work of Xenia Hausner.
His work spans naturalistic landscapes, animals, and portraits across a wide range of techniques: pencil, charcoal, chalk, pastel, acrylic, and oil on canvas.
His artistic influences include Swiss painters Franz Gertsch, Cuno Amiet, and Rolf Ziegler, as well as Brazilian painter Harding Meyer. He has been particularly moved by the work of Xenia Hausner, whose portraits impressed him through their intensity of expression and technical mastery.
Alec has played classical piano since the age of seven. He later developed a passion for jazz improvisation and blues.
